Nightly Thought

I am sitting here watching a Documentary called "Benji" it is the story of  a Chicago high school basketball phenom named Benjamin Wilson. In the mid 80's he was the #1 Basketball Player in the country but his life was cut short due to gun violence. He was shot twice while walking his girlfriend which was also the mother of his child to the bus stop.

I am so touched by this story because he was doing everything to stay on the right path and to have a positive future, yet his life was taken in such a violent way. Despite his mother's efforts to reach out to the community to enforce tougher hand gun laws; the streets of Chicago are still very dangerous and still claiming the lives of our youth. Gun Violence is something that impact all cities in America on a daily basis. I am not sure if there will ever be an end to our kids killing each other because a lot of children are raised with negative influences in their lives.

This Documentary is available on Netflix and if you don't have Netflix you can look it up on the Internet. Just type the story of Benji Wilson.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY

THIS IS THE HISTORY OF SAINT PATRICK'S DAY:

On March 17th St. Patrick's Day is celebrated. The saint's religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the 5th century.

The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over 1,000 years. St. Patrick's Day falls during the Christian season of Lent. Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon.

Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink and feast--on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

THANK YOU TO MY "LOYAL READERS"

I started "Can a Girl Get a Break" almost 1 year ago and I have to say it has been an honor to share my thoughts and stories with my "Loyal Readers". It is amazing to see something that started off as an idea develop into a success. I started off writing a book and ended up with a company. I want "Can a Girl Get a Break" to be a part of everyone whether its through them following my books, blog, twitter, facebook post,YouTube videos or purchasing "CGGB" merchandise. When I decided to go forward with the "CGGB" Brand I visioned many generations of people relating to everything connected to "Can a Girl Get a Break". Who in their life have never dreamed, loved, laughed, cried, or had the feeling of being overwhelmed or alone at times. We all have those mutual feelings in common especially fearing the unknown. When I started on this journey I was afraid to share my ideas with people because I was afraid of what they may have thought about "CGGB". I am glad that I didn't allow that fear to stop me because here I am almost a year later and I have 580 followers on Twitter, 207 friends on facebook, 2,724 views on my blog, 40 T-shirts sold, and 100 book sold. A lot of people may think those are small numbers but for me it shows how affective the "CGGB" movement will be once the word starts to spread a little more. I never thought I could do any of this especially being a working mom, wife, and student. Although it has been hard at times to manage my time day to day I will continue to stay dedicated to my "Loyal Readers" and give them something to look forward to through my work. I will be forever grateful for all the love and support I received from family, friends, and my "Loyal Readers".  Let's keep "CGGB" growing! Please share what you know about "Can a Girl Get a Break" with you friends, family, and associates. As a Licensed Cosmetologist I have learned that "word of mouth" is the best form of advertisement. I am confident that as time goes on "Can a Girl Get a Break" will come full circle and will no longer be just a dream but a great reality! Thank you once again for your love and support! Please continue to follow me on my journey. -SunShyne B.

Keeping your kids age appropriate

Questions parent may have when trying to keep their children age appropriate.

When is your child too old to play with toys?

What dances should a child 8-11 be allowed to do?

What is a good age to start letting your child have sleepovers?

What age should you allow your child to start doing chores?

What age should you teach your child how to cook?

What age should you allow your child to start dating?

What age do you start letting your kids venture out with their friends?

When do you start your child on a curfew?

What age should a child be when they get a cellphone?

What age should your child be allowed to go on social media sites?

There are so many more questions to ask when it comes to parenting.
The list goes on and on because when you become a parent it's a responsibility that no one is ever prepared for. Just remember to install a good foundation for your children by teaching them about respect, trust, family, love, self-control, and last but not least teach you children how to pray! -

Keeping your "Life Resume" Updated!!!

It is always good to keep yourself educated about different things.

Try to learn a variety of things so you can broaden your options in life. Everything you learn should get you one step ahead of the game. A person who has knowledge and a great work ethic is unstoppable.

Reading books will help increase and your vocabulary.

Trust me there is nothing worst than standing in the middle of a conversation and not knowing what the conversation is about, while trying really hard not to look confused.

A fun way to add adventure to your life is taking classes to enhance your knowledge whether it be ballroom dancing, art, writing, karate, music, computer it's solely you to you.

If you decide to volunteer in your spare time that would be great, maybe you could read to kids

                                                               At Your Local Library

Try to do something that can change your life or the life of someone else in a positive way!

We can help each other by updating our "Life Resume" so that we can use our knowledge to help  others" -SunShyne B.

Animal Rescue

Hey everyone I have great news!!!! A month ago my family adopted a beautiful Labador Retriver from the animal rescue. She is 1 year 6months and her name is Athena. We went to the animal rescue with the intention of just seeing what kind of dogs were there. When we walked in there were so many dogs it was really sad. Some had been abused and others neglected. My 8 year old son started crying when he saw all the dogs and my eyes got watery. I can't believe how many people choose to get pets and the abandon them. Needless to say we walked by her cage and she stole our hearts to be honest if we had a big enough space we would have rescued another. The idea of these poor animals suffering is heart wrenching. It's been a month and she is adjusting well to her new surroundings, she has her full appetite, she is up to date with her vaccines, she has been groomed, she loves her chew toys & tennis balls. She has a warm bed to snuggle up in every night. She still won't sleep in her area alone. We have her space set up in the living room and if we get up to go to bedshe is right behind us it is too cute. Her little personality fits in with our family she is defitnitely a blessing on our family. I share our story because there are so many animals out there that need a home but don't take them unless you are willing to dedicate 100% of your heart to them.
