A STORY OF REDEMPTION: CHARLES "BOSTON" RODGERS

I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO WATCH "SERVING LIFE" ON THE OPRAH WINFREY NETWORK. WHICH IS A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE REDEMPTION OF INMATES.
THE STORY THAT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION WAS THAT OF CHARLES "BOSTON" RODGERS. WHO WAS SENTENCED TO 35 YEARS IN PRISON AFTER A ROBBERY HE COMMITTED AT 17 YEARS OLD.

Because his story touched my heart. I decided to  look more into his case. My findings were that nobody got hurt during the robbery, there is a written confession from one of his co-defendants at the police department claiming that he was the actual gunmen not Charles "Boston" Rodgers but the confession was not taken into consideration. Charles went to trial to plead his case in court. The 3 other co-defendants took a plea deal and got off with 3 years served or probation. Charles admitted his role in the robbery and was sentence to 35 years. I do not condone any of this behavior but I do feel 35 years is too much for a 17 year old. An organization has been established to help On-behalf Charles Rodgers and others like him who are serving harsh sentences in Louisiana. Charles is now 31 years old and looking for a chance at redemption. He is now fighting in the courts to have his sentenced reduced.

THE POWER OF PRAYER

We all have to believe in something to get us by day to day. I believe in the POWER OF PRAYER. There are times when I feel like I can't fight another day. I just be ready to give up but I have been blessed with a Mother and Grandmother that taught me to pray.

At first I thought "yeah right this is silly" but as time went on and I was faced with different life situations I found myself wanting to learn more about they tried to teach me years ago. I got a bible and asked for guidance and understanding of what I was reading. I began to read a little bit every day and surely my Faith grew. I starting feeling good inside. I started to feel a peacefulness that I never felt before. Although my situation had not changed I noticed it was a little easier to cope with and I grew the feeling of knowing everything would be alright. At first I prayed for silly stuff but I bet we all start off that way until we get the full understanding of what it means to pray.

ALL PRAYERS ARE HEARD SO DON'T BE AFRAID TO PUT IT IN HIS HANDS. -SunShyne B.

MOTHER'S DAY

I enjoyed my Mother's Day and I hope you did too. My kids took me out for ice-cream then we ate Chinese food and watched a movie. I even took them to the pool. I love seeing my children smile it makes me feel like a proud mother. The gift of motherhood is amazing and giving birth doesn't make you a mom. It's the unconditional love you have for your child, it's the willingness to make sacrifices for your child, it's the ability to guide your child to be the best person they can be that's makes you a mom. I am so proud that I have the opportunity to have two amazing young men in my life that call me mommy. I cherish them with all my heart. From the first time I heard their little heart beat to the time I held them in my arms I knew it was my responsibility to become a great mom and someone they can be proud of. I am proud to be a mom!

SOMETIMES LOVE ISN'T ENOUGH

Time and time again we give our hearts to people. Time and time again those people will break our hearts. I know that when you give your heart you are taking a risk, but what if you don't have a choice. What do you do when it's your family that continues to break your heart over and over again. It's a feeling of hurt that is unrepairable because it's a feeling of betrayal that comes along with the heartache because you don't expect your family to cause you such pain and suffering. I think family can hurt you the most because your guards are down and you expect so much more from them and you also expect them to shield you from such pain and suffering not inflict it. Sometimes the love you have for your family isn't enough. Sometimes your family can take it too far because they think that you will always forgive them or be there for them because they are your family but that is not true. When you spend so much time and energy trying to be a good brother, sister, cousin, auntie, uncle, grandma, grandad, mom, dad, husband or wife yet you continue to get rejected or hurt, especially by the same person it really takes a toll on your relationship that love starts to fade. So please keep in mind that your family will not always be there for you especially if you do not treat them right because sometimes love just isn't enough.  -SunShyne B.
